All employees are required to observe the smoking regulations in their work location, whether on board a vessel, or at any other Remøy Shipping facility.

Smoking regulations are designed to protect you and your fellow employees. Smoking is a recognised health and safety hazard and is therefore only permitted in designated areas, both on board vessels and at Remøy Shipping shore bases and offices.

Employees may smoke outside in designated areas during their breaks. The company doesn’t facilitate additional breaks for smoking. When smoking, do not leave cigarette butts or other traces of litter or tobacco use on the ground or anywhere else.

Designated smoking areas are to be assigned at the discretion of the Master on board vessels and the senior management at shore bases and offices, having due consideration for those employees who do not smoke and are entitled to work and spend their on and off-duty time in a smoke free atmosphere.

On vessels not equipped with a purpose designed smoking room inside the accommodation, designated smoking areas shall be outside of all accommodation, living and rest areas. Additionally, smoking is not permitted in any interior work areas such as the bridge or engine control room.

At shore bases and offices, smoking is only permitted outside of buildings in safe designated areas during breaks. Employees should conform to the smoking or tobacco use policies of clients when working at a client’s site.

All non-smoking areas should be explained during familiarisation at all Remøy Shipping vessels, shore bases, offices and other areas as applicable. Similarly, safe designated smoking areas should be explained.

“No Smoking” signs may be posted as deemed necessary.

There is strictly no smoking on deck if the vessel is working within the 500 meters safety zone of an installation and wherever there is any other recognised risk or fire, explosion or any other form of combustion.

This policy is subject to annual review during Management meeting and in view of changing legal requirements, stakeholder’s expectations and company’s operations.

This policy is to be displayed on all vessels managed by Remøy Shipping, marine operations sites and in shore based locations and confirms our commitment towards health and safety.
